Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino confirms Onomah and Foyth injuries/provides update on Harry Winks

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino this afternoon confirmed that both Joshua Onomah and Juan Foyth have picked up pre-season injuries, before providing an update on the progress of Harry Winks in his journey back to full fitness.

Stateside

Premier League outfit Spurs are currently in the United States, as they prepare to ramp up their preparations for the new season in the International Champions Cup.

The capital giants are set to face off versus all of Roma, Barcelona and AC Milan over the next week, with a number of the club’s fringe players no doubt eager to impress in the hopes of earning themselves a place in the plans of Mauricio Pochettino for the coming campaign.

Chief among these players were expected to be midfielder Joshua Onomah, who impressed on loan at Aston Villa last season, and 20-year-old defender Juan Foyth, who has struggled for game-time in North London since his arrival from Estudiantes last summer.

Missing out

However, unfortunately for the pair of youngsters, neither will be afforded the opportunity to showcase their talents during Spurs’ time in the U.S., with Pochettino having confirmed earlier today that both have picked up injuries, and have been left out of the 25-man travelling panel:

‘Josh (Onomah) is part of our plans (for the upcoming season). He’s injured and doing his recovery with Harry Winks. That’s why he’s not here.’

Foyth, meanwhile, was initially included in the Tottenham squad for the ICC, but Pochettino confirmed that the Argentine has since been left at home after picking up a knee injury.

‘Doing very well’

The Tottenham boss also provided an update on the progress of midfielder Harry Winks, who is currently recovering from surgery on a lingering ankle injury:

‘He [Winks] is doing well after his injury. We’re waiting for the evolution and we hope he can join the group as soon as possible. At the moment he’s out of the group. We need to assess him every day.’ (Quotes via ESPN)
