Sky: Andre Schurrle set for Fulham medical

As per a report from Sky Sports News tonight, Premier League outfit Fulham have secured a deal for Borussia Dortmund attacker Andre Schurrle.

Gifted German

Schurrle, a 27-year-old German international, can play on either wing or in a more central role, and holds a hugely impressive record of 22 goals in 57 appearances for his country.

Following stellar stints with both Mainz and Bayer Leverkusen early in his career, Premier League giants Chelsea splashed out a fee thought to be in the region of 21 million Euro for Schurrle in the summer of 2013.

The Mainz youth product enjoyed a relatively successful debut season at Stamford Bridge, racking up 8 goals and 2 assists in 30 Premier League outings (15 starts), but struggled to replicate his form during his second season in London, and eventually made the move back to the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg in the winter of 2015.

And, after another impressive season in his home country in 2015-16, Schurrle was on the move once again, with Borussia Dortmund this time smashing their club-record transfer fee to bring the talented attacker to the Westfalenstadion.

Struggles

However, Schurrle’s career has since stalled once more, with the 2014 World Cup winner having managed just 19 Bundesliga starts over the last 2 campaigns.

11 of these came last season, with the 27-year-old having racked up  just a goal and 4 assists in 18 total league outings over the course of the campaign.

London bound?

As such, Schurrle has inevitably once again been linked with an imminent transfer this summer, with a report from Simon Johnson of the Evening Standard over the weekend having revealed that the German was in talks with an ‘unnamed’ Premier League club over a move to England:

Subsequent reports had suggested that Crystal Palace may be the club in question, but as per the aforementioned update from Sky Sports News this evening, Palace’s London rivals Fulham are in fact the surprise outfit to have not only entered into talks with the player, but actually secured a deal for Schurrle:
