Liverpool & Joel Matip
In their last pre-season friendly, Liverpool were beaten 3-1 by Borussia Dortmund.
Not only did Jurgen Klopp lose the match, he also lost centre-half Joel Matip.
Matip sustained a muscle injury in the BVB game.
Sadly for the player and the club, Matip has been sent home from the American tour following the injury. As reported on Liverpool’s website:
Though the muscle injury suffered in his upper leg is not considered to be a long-term concern, Matip will not be available for selection in the remaining two games in America.
Besiktas & Croatia’s Domagoj Vida
At the same time, rumours have been swirling about in recent days that Liverpool are trying to sign Besiktas and Croatian defender Domagoj Vida.
Vida enjoyed a superb 2018 World Cup as Croatia lost in the final to France.
Of course, Vida’s international team mate Dejan Lovren is already a mainstay at Anfield.
Yet, according to the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce, Liverpool won’t be signing Vida or any other defender for that matter:
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has no intention of signing another centre-back this summer – despite Joel Matip’s injury setback.
The Reds have been repeatedly linked with a move for Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida with fresh reports suggesting that a bid of around £19.5million had been tabled.
However, Liverpool have no interest in the Croatia international and are baffled by the constant speculation linking them with Vida.
#LFC have absolutely no interest in Besiktas defender Vida despite the persistent speculation. Klopp happy with CB options.

Liverpool’s 2018-19 depth chart
Many Liverpool fans are arguing that the Reds now have the best spine in the club’s history.
Alisson in goal. Virgil Van Dijk at the back. Fabinho and Naby Keita in the middle, with Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino in attack.
Looking at the Reds squad, it seems that Jurgen Klopp will go for a 4-3-3 formation this season.
The Reds seem to have at least two options for almost every position in the team.
