Toby Alderweireld on transfer deadline day
It would be no surprise if Toby Alderweireld was a little nervous on Thursday.
Will Alderweireld still be a Tottenham player at 5.01pm?
For months rumours have been flying about linking Alderweireld with a move from Spurs this summer.
Last season was rough for the defender. After suffering a bad injury against Real Madrid, Alderweireld lost his place in the Tottenham XI.
At the same time, everyone knows that Alderweireld has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for cheap next summer.
That has lead to speculation that Man United could sign the 29-year-old.
Man United deal looks unlikely
Yet, as transfer deadline day passes, it looks unlikely that Alderweireld will move to Man United.
That message is rubber-stamped across several articles in the Times on Thursday.
Where is Alderweireld’s agent today? The Times report:
Toby Alderweireld’s agent, Stijn Francis, is ready to fly over from Denmark if United bid for his client, who Tottenham Hotspur value at more than £50 million.
But even if Man United don’t complete a deal for Alderweireld, he still could leave Spurs. The Times announce:
The Tottenham Hotspur centre back Alderweireld, among others, could yet find a club abroad. He has been linked with a move to Italy if United do not bid for him. The defender’s representative is scheduled to arrive in London today to try to push for a move.
It’s worth noting that the Times fail to list any European suitors for Alderweireld.

Spurs now asking for player(s) plus cash for Alderweireld. Have to admit I’m so bored with this now.

Toby Alderweireld would be a defensive Robin van Persie for #MUFC: an experienced player who could fit right in and help to immediately deliver a title. There is still time, but #MUFC dithering and leaving it very late now…

Tottenham made Fulham an offer for Sessegnon several weeks ago, proposed a deal that would see Danny Rose go the other way – #THFC want to move Rose (and Alderweireld for that matter) out – but couldn’t reach agreement and Sessegnon now won’t be leaving #FFC this transfer window
