Chelsea & Rob Green
38-year-old former England international Rob Green is poised to join Chelsea.
Green spent last season with Huddersfield Town, however the goalie failed to make a single Premier League appearance for the Terriers.
Huddersfield have since released Green, as he’s a free agent.
And according to widespread reports on Wednesday, Chelsea are ready to hand Green a new contract.
Why Chelsea are signing Rob Green
According to the Daily Mail, Rob Green is tipped to sign a “short term” agreement with Chelsea.
One suspects that will be a 12 month contract to remain at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are keen on moving for Green for the following reasons:
Green also boosts Chelsea’s homegrown quota, after they allowed Jamal Blackman to join Leeds on loan.
Should the deal transpire, Green will become the Chelsea third keeper this season.
Rob Green to Chelsea, says a very good source. Not a direct replacement for Thibaut Courtois obviously but a strange one to sign even as backup. Top bloke btw is Rob.

As others, including @chelseayouth, have pointed out. Green signing makes sense in terms of filling the home grown quota. Certainly not one many people will have seen coming though – provided it goes through of course.

Is Thibaut Courtois leaving?
Of course, Chelsea may have bigger goalie issues to contend with this summer.
Belgium international Thibaut Courtois has been tipped to leave Stamford Bridge to join Real Madrid.
While that possible deal simmers in the background, Chelsea have been linked with a couple of keepers who could replace Courtois.
The first keeper is Stoke City and England international Jack Butland.
Alternatively, Leicester City and Denmark international Kasper Schmeichel has also been touted as a Chelsea target.
